Double Unders and Bar Muscle ups announced

Lamarr Smith - Tuesday, February 23, 2010
Hey everyone,

This is an announcement regarding the workouts for the Next Level Invitational.  We want this event to be very competitive and will release information about the workouts periodically. There will be double unders in every division.  In the male advanced division there will be bar muscle ups.  Female advanced, male intermediate and male masters there will be chest 2 bar pullups and for female intermediate and female masters there will be kipping pullups.

We decided to release this information to limit possible problems regarding hitting the workouts to standard and to help prepare the competitors thoroughly.

As we near competition day, more announcements regarding specifics will come.

54 days to go

Lamarr Smith - Monday, February 15, 2010
Good Evening,

We are super excited for everyone who is preparing for the Sectionals.  This is a major undertaking for the elite of the elite.  I hope all the affiliates are planning to attend the Sectionals.  The sectionals are the venue for the super elite to show what they have trained for all year, but what about the individuals who do not have that level of physical ability...yet?  For anyone who is not quite a fire breather or if you are and have made it past sectionals you may want to consider the Next Level Invitational.    After the Sectionals you will need a break and what better way to make sure you are back on track than competing at the Invitational.  We would like to have at least 2 athletes compete from every box within the regions we invited.

This will be a great opportunity to allow your athletes to show their ability and to find out what they are made of.  Many athletes are comfortable training in their backyard and against the same people day in day out.  So we need events like the Invitational to allow these athletes to step outside of the comfort zone and turn up the intensity.  Our male intermediate division sold out at the originally 30 athlete cap we had set.  We have now have opened it up to 50 total male intermediates.

As for our Affiliate Support Prize competition here is a quick snapshot of the leader board. CrossFit Marina has the lead now with 16 competitors and 2 spectators registered.  And we have Orange Coast CrossFit in second with 13 competitors registered.

Are you or your athletes on the fence regarding which division to enter?  Here is a little advise.  For the advanced, if you can hit a majority of the benchmarks or at least come very close then you should enter here.   Understand going in, the Invitational WODS may be the most challenging workouts you or athletes have ever done.   Not impossible just very challenging.

Look forward to meeting many of you at the Invitational.

Keep the momentum building and keep training.  See you guys at the Sectionals then The Invitational.

Lamarr

Register here: http://www.regonline.com/builder/site/Default.aspx?eventid=816813

We will send out a email to collect some vital stats on the competitors from this we will begin to post some athlete profiles from the different divisions.

Now that the athletes are pouring we really need judges.  Remember without quality judges this event will be a waste of time.  So It is up to us as a community to make sure the CrossFit brand is not tarnished by weak standards and piss poor technique.  We have been hearing alot about the quality control within CrossFit, well guess what it starts in your box and with your coaches.  If your coaches are shoddy within the box then the athletes will be shoddy when they compete.  So knowing that you have athletes competing now should be the time that use stricter judging standards for anyone thinking about competing.  The one thing that everyone has control of is " their very own range of motion".  Nothing wastes more time than doing reps that do not count.

If you are interested in judging please email Lamarr.Smith@CrossFitNLP.com

Next Level Invitational update 1

Lamarr Smith - Friday, January 22, 2010

Event Date: April 10th
On site Registration starts @ 7am
First heat will start @ 8:30am

Hope this update finds everyone in good spirits,

We are very close to finalizing the location for the event. I will say that both options on the table will offer a perfect venue to test your abilities and provide you a great atmosphere to compete, spectate, volunteer or judge.

We will have 3 divisions Masters, Intermediate and Advanced.

If you are considering which division to enter or if you should enter at all. We will post some information on Sunday regarding this. But for a basic rule of thumb. Advanced is rx. Intermediate and Masters are scaled for weight. So intermediate and masters should be able to do complete all wods but maybe they modify the weights or use the lower end bands for pullups. R.O.M will not be modified you must be able to do the movements in general.

There will be a overall affiliate champion as well. To determine the affiliate champion, we will consider # of competitors your box enters into the event and the results of individual competitors will be totaled to give us a Champion. In the event of a tie we will use the amount of support you get from your box, friends and family to determine the overall winner. Each box should try to use this as community building event and really get a strong show of support.

Competitors As for registration we will be launching the registration site on 1/28/10. Once the site is up please register up as soon as you can. Based on the preliminary feedback, this event will sell out. If you are going to compete please email us your information @ Registration@CrossFitNLP.com. We will add your name to list and send you a direct email when the registration site is live.

Spectators Please come support your box. You have no idea how much this will mean to them as they are pouring their heart and soul out in pit. If you plan on attending as a spectator please send your info to Registration@CrossFitNLP.com. We will add your name to a list and send you a direct email once the registration site is live.
Judges I can not stress enough how important the judges are to the event. We are looking for quality judges to uphold the standards of movement. Criteria for being is a judge is as follows: 1. Level 1 CF trainer or at least been CrossFitting for 1 year 2. currently training athletes 3. knowledge of all current CrossFit standards 4. ability to work under a little pressure 5. LOVE FOR COACHING This is an excellent opportunity for anyone considering attending a CrossFit Level 2 cert. The standards must be upheld in order the event to mean anything. We really need your help in this area. Please email me at Lamarr.Smith@CrossFitNLP.com
